Jar Jar Binks is a member of the amphibious Gungan species from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. How to Tell sw0017 and sw0301 Apart
The easiest tell is whether the head is printed. The 1999 sw0017 has a plain, unprinted tan head, and at the time it debuted as one of the earliest minifigures with a dedicated sculpted head, alongside C-3PO. The 2011 sw0301 redesign uses a newly sculpted head with the eyes, mouth, and facial details all printed in.
