LEGO Clone Trooper Minifigures: Complete Variant Guide and Set List

“What’s the difference between Phase 1 and Phase 2 Clone Troopers?” “Which set actually has the 501st Legion?” “Can you still get the debut #7163?”
If you’re a collector, you’ve probably run into questions like these. Here’s a single guide that pulls it all together.

Hello there! Figrou, I am — your guide, hmm. Figbase, a reference site it is, where which sets the LEGO minifigures come in, and how to tell the variants apart, across the board mapped out they are. Wherever your curiosity leads, begin there you should.

This article maps out LEGO’s Clone Trooper minifigures along three axes: “Phase 1 / Phase 2,” “battalion markings,” and “the sets they appear in.” It isn’t an exhaustive list of all 100-plus SKUs; it’s a reference focused on the major lineages and on how to decide what to buy.

The short version: if you’re just starting to collect, battle packs like 2024’s #75372 and 2023’s #75345 are the best for both availability and value. On the other hand, the original 2002-2003 Phase 1 figures (#7163 / #4482) are rare pieces you can only get on the secondary market.

Who Is the Clone Trooper?

The Clone Trooper is a soldier of the Galactic Republic, mass-produced on the planet Kamino using the bounty hunter Jango Fett as the template. They first appeared in Episode II “Attack of the Clones,” fought through the Clone Wars, and were later folded into the Galactic Empire’s Stormtroopers in Episode III.

Their armor evolved from the early “Phase 1” to the mid-war upgraded “Phase 2.” Even within the same phase, markings vary by color depending on the unit (501st Legion, 212th Battalion, 327th Star Corps, and so on), and LEGO’s minifigures generally follow this structure when expanding the variations.

The Clone Trooper Has Several Minifigures: Variant List

According to LEGO’s official collector’s guide, Clone Trooper minifigures have totaled more than 100 versions since their first appearance in 2002. Here we organize them by “lineage,” the unit that matters most for buying decisions.

Phase 1 Clone Trooper (Original Version, 2002-2003)

An older sculpt with curved fins on the helmet and a plain black head peeking through the slit to represent the visor. Because it appeared only in two sets, #7163 and #4482, it’s now a rare piece that tends to spike in price on the secondhand market.

Phase 1 Clone Trooper (Clone Wars Version, 2008 Onward)

Fully redesigned to tie in with the 2008 animated series “The Clone Wars.” The helmet visor became a print, and the face inside was detailed as well. From this generation, derivative variants like sw0200a and sw0286 increased rapidly. The standard version circulated in 2008-2010, and decorated versions through about 2012.

Phase 2 Clone Trooper (2013 Onward)

The generation that recreates the film’s Episode III Phase 2 armor. The helmet crest is smaller and more rounded, making it easy to tell apart from Phase 1 at a glance. From 2015 on, Phase 2 figures added leg printing, further improving the detail.

Battalion Markings (501st / 212th / 327th / 332nd, etc.)

Even within the same Phase 2, the armor color distinguishes the unit. The main ones are as follows.

  • 501st Legion: blue markings. Rex and Anakin’s unit. Included in #75280 / #75345 and others.
  • 212th Attack Battalion: orange tones. Commander Cody’s unit. Included in #75337 and others.
  • 327th Star Corps: yellow accents. Commander Bly’s unit. Included in #75431.
  • 332nd Company: the yellow-and-orange paint scheme under Ahsoka. Appeared around the 2023 battle packs.
  • Coruscant Guard (Shock Troopers): red markings. Included in Coruscant-related sets.

Special Roles (Pilots / Jet Troopers / ARC Troopers, etc.)

Beyond standard infantry, there are many variants set apart by dedicated gear: Clone Pilots with ear-flap helmets, Clone Jet Troopers with jetpacks, and ARC Troopers (Fives, Echo) equipped with kamas, pauldrons, and rangefinders.

A complete list down to each individual sw number, if want you do — the BrickLink catalog, check it you should. At Figbase, by units that make it easy to look up “which set is it in,” organize things I do, so as your starting point for telling them apart, work it does, I hope.

First, Latest, Rarest, Cheapest: Buying a Clone Trooper Minifigure

First: #7163 Republic Gunship (2002)

The first set to bring a Clone Trooper to LEGO Star Wars. Released the same year as Episode II, it’s the set that started the whole series.

Latest: the 2024 Battle Packs

#75372 Clone Trooper & Battle Droid Battle Pack (2024) brought back the standard white armor and introduced a new ARC Trooper “Fives.” Followed by #75431 327th Star Corps Battle Pack and others, the current lineup is well stocked.

Rarest: the original Phase 1 in #4482 AT-TE (2003)

The original Phase 1 with the curved-fin old-sculpt helmet circulated only in two sets, #7163 (2002) and #4482 (2003). It’s available only secondhand now, and secondary prices tend to run extremely high.

Cheapest: the battle packs (#75345 / #75372 / #75431)

Battle packs, which put around four Clone Troopers in a single set, have the lowest cost per figure. Launch MSRPs land in the $19.99-$44.99 range, making them great for both beginners and army-building.
