“How many LEGO Mace Windu minifigures are there?” “Which set has the 2005 light-up lightsaber version?” “Which sets come with the purple lightsaber?”
If you’re a collector, you’ve probably run into these questions at least once. Here’s everything sorted out in one place.

Hello there! Figrou, I am — your guide, hmm. Figbase, a reference site it is, where which sets the LEGO minifigures come in, and how to tell the variants apart, across the board mapped out they are. Wherever your curiosity leads, begin there you should.
This guide lays out how to tell apart every LEGO Mace Windu variant, along with the main sets each one appears in, all in a single reference table.
The short version: there are eight Mace Windu minifigure variants, and the purple lightsaber comes standard with every one of them. The standouts are the 2005 version with the built-in light-up lightsaber mechanism (#7261-1) and the caped Mace from #9526, which recreates the EP3 scene where Palpatine is arrested.
Who Is Mace Windu?
Mace Windu is a master on the Jedi High Council in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (EP1 to EP3), ranking just below Yoda among the Jedi. He’s known as the only Jedi who wields a purple lightsaber, a color that came about at the personal request of Samuel L. Jackson, who played him. In EP3 he plays a key role in the direct confrontation with Darth Sidious before his downfall.
In LEGO minifigure form, since his 2005 debut, multiple variants have been released over the years with changes to the outfit, leg printing, mouth expression, and more. A distinctive touch is that the purple lightsaber is included as an accessory with every variant.

What Makes the 2005 “Light-up Lightsaber” Special?
The first Mace Windu (fig-007679), included in the 2005 #7261 Clone Turbo Tank, was a special minifigure with a light-up mechanism built into the body. Pressing the head down made the purple lightsaber light up via an LED. But the battery life was short, around 3 hours, so the reissue the following year (2006 #7261 Non-Light-Up version / fig-003664) replaced it with a standard spec. It’s a rare case of “two generations in one set,” with the same set number #7261 holding different contents.
The Purple Lightsaber Is Common to All Variants
Mace Windu’s signature purple lightsaber comes standard with every variant, from the 2005 light-up version to the latest 2022 release. The light-up version has a built-in mechanism, while all the others use a standard transparent purple blade.

Debut, Newest, Rarest, Cheapest: If You Want a Mace Windu Minifigure
Debut Set
Mace Windu was first made into a minifigure in the 2005 #7261 Clone Turbo Tank (Light-Up Mace Windu version). It was a special first edition with a built-in mechanism that made the purple lightsaber light up when you pressed the head.
Newest Set
The 2022 #75342 Republic Fighter Tank is the newest set with Mace as of now. It includes the most detailed Mace Windu spec yet (fig-012578), with white arm printing (sleeve detail) added on top of the leg printing.
Rarest (Hardest-to-Find Set / Variant)
The hardest to find are COMCON004 Collectible Display Set 1 (a 2009 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive) and the #7261 Light-Up Mace Windu version (2005, short production run). The former was an event-exclusive release, so very few were ever made, and the latter was replaced by the standard spec after a year because of the production cost of the light-up mechanism. The #852555 magnet set is also on the rarer side as a limited Gear-line release.
Cheapest (Easiest to Find)
Relatively small in set size and easier to find are mid-size animation-line vehicles like #75199 General Grievous’ Combat Speeder (2018) and #75342 Republic Fighter Tank (2022). That said, many older sets are retired, so today you’ll mostly be looking on the secondhand market. The 2022 #75342 is the one most readily available new.
